This book is written for those who seek a short introduction to the practice of meditation. Everything is included that is essential for starting, maintaining, and progressing within this practice. At the center stands the lived experience of meditation, its conceptual structure, and the whole range of meaning associated with it. The content is based on three decades of meditation experience and many years of teaching meditation classes and retreats, and roughly equals what one would learn within about half a year. Both the potential benefits of meditation as well as its challenges are discussed. Both spiritual and scientific perspectives are presented. What emerges is a comprehensive, well-founded, and practical view of meditation.
